Pignerolle park in Saint-Barthélemy-d’Anjou, five minutes from Angers, has a long and rich history. Formerly the residence of Marcel Avril de Pignerolle, the last director of the equestrian academy of Angers, it hosted the president of the Republic of Poland and his staff in-exile from 1939 to 1940. It was the occupation by the German army (1942-1944), though, that especially marked the Parc de Pignerolle, and the ten bunkers built between 1942 and 1943 can still be seen today.
