For over 50 years, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire has been one of the cultural jewels of the Pays de la Loire region. Comprising some one hundred musicians, it performs over 200 symphonic concerts per season in the cities of Nantes and Angers, throughout the Pays de la Loire region and internationally. In addition to symphonic works, the orchestra participates in the lyric seasons of Angers Nantes Opéra, and plays an active role in developing a taste for classical music among young people. Since February 2004, the orchestra has had an amateur choir of 60 singers (conductor: Valérie Fayet). Today, the ONPL is one of Europe's most popular orchestras.
Sascha Goetzel takes over as musical director of the ONPL in 2022. Born in Vienna, Austria, Sascha Goetzel is a multi-faceted conductor who works with the Orchestra on the great classics of the Romantic repertoire.
Under the presidency of Antoine Chéreau, the ONPL receives financial support from the Conseil Régional des Pays de la Loire, the Ministère de la Culture, Nantes Métropole, Angers Loire Métropole and the départements of Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire and Vendée. It is under the general direction of Guillaume Lamas.
