Angers, Places to brunch all over town

The Anglo-Saxon tradition of brunch has its fair share of great places to go in Angers. Make your choice, and don’t forget to book!

Your weekend gourmet treat

When the weekend arrives, after a busy week, what could be nicer than to put your feet under the table in a beautiful place and treat yourself?

Offered on Saturdays and Sundays, generally between 11.00am and 3.00pm, you’ll enjoy brunch in Anjou with your partner, family or friends. A contraction of the words “breakfast” and “lunch”, this meal is a delightful mix of sweet and savoury dishes. It’s the perfect combination to get your taste buds tingling, while enjoying a joyous, friendly experience together!

While the traditional English version of brunch usually includes eggs, bacon, white beans with tomato and fried potatoes, the French versions vary according to the whim of our chefs. You’ll usually find cold meats, fruit salads, pastries and, of course, the inevitable fruit juices and hot drinks. It’s the ideal meal for our indecisive friends who don’t want to have to choose between breakfast and lunch!

The weekend treat

Available on Saturdays and Sundays, usually between 11 am and 3 pm, brunch in Angers is the perfect outing for couples, families or friends.

The French version of brunch is a heavenly combination of mini sweet and savoury dishes that guarantee a mouthwatering experience and a brilliant time.

Unlike the English-style brunch with its eggs, bacon, baked beans and fried potatoes, the composition of a French brunch tends to vary depending on the chef. Whether it’s in a self-service buffet format or a set menu with a selection of small dishes, you will usually find eggs, charcuterie, fruit salads, viennoiseries and of course your essential fruit juices and hot drinks. In short, it’s the ideal meal for those who want a little of everything and who don’t want to choose between breakfast and lunch.

A sweet and savoury blend

The day after a fun evening out with friends or simply to share a friendly moment together with the family on a Sunday lunchtime, when feeling peckish or maybe a lot more hungry: Comptoir Ferdinand caters for all tastes and appetites!

When the fine weather arrives, you can enjoy the sunshine from a large, comfortably furnished terrace planted with trees and shrubs. On rainy or winter’s days, you can enjoy the warm colours of the large dining room and light-filled veranda.

On the menu: pastries, cold meat, cheese, guacamole, homemade pancakes, granola and vanilla panna cotta, fresh juice and hot drinks… Sweet for some, savoury for others – there’s no cause for alarm, as there’s something for everyone!

All the ingredients are there to ensure you have a great time that’s tasty, too.

Eggs, the star of the meal

Poached, scrambled, boiled or fried, eggs are an essential ingredient at brunch.

Whether at La Cour, Chez Marguerite or Le Chou, eggs come in all shapes and sizes!

Along with them, you’ll often find standard items sharing the menu: fresh juice, hot drinks, muesli with fromage blanc, bread and pastries… The menus at these fine dining venues, where everything is homemade, vary with the seasons, depending on local produce and the chefs’ inspiration: you certainly won’t tire of them in a hurry!

New menu each week

At Chez Marguerite, Julia’s waffles and hot chocolate, served in pretty vintage crockery, are to die for… Once you’ve sat down at one of the tables in the British-style tearoom, it’s hard not to want to try all the pastries, so delicious that they’re sure to take you back to your grandmother’s kitchen!

Chez Marguerite has two Angers addresses, one at 7 rue Pocquet de Livonnières and the other at 1 rue de Saint-Laud.

Something for everyone

At La Cour, seated in comfortable velvet armchairs around a large round table, you won’t be able to resist the brioche perdue with scrambled eggs and tartuffade, and the pancakes drizzled with maple syrup or topped with cream and fruit.

What’s more, it’s all available as a vegetarian or vegan option, without butter or cow’s milk.

And if the prospect of tasting eggs Benedict makes your mouth water, too: Les fils à maman is the place to try these poached eggs, served with potato pancakes, bacon and a mousseline sauce. around a large round table, you won’t know which way to look between the crispy avocado toasts and ultra-light pancakes drizzled in maple syrup or topped with fruit and cream.

Brunch during the week

Just a stone’s throw from Place du Ralliement, Le Chou tearoom and patisserie is sure to please (brunch available Tuesday to Saturday and the first Sunday of the month only).

Step into an interior that’s elegant, chic and relaxed all at the same time. For those who prefer the peace and quiet of the outdoors, why not take a seat in the courtyard, which provides an intimate setting with a certain charm.

Céline and Estelle offer their flagship speciality: cream puffs, and it’s not just preparing this timeless pastry where they excel!

Try their homemade brioche with roasted carrots, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, or enjoy a toasted sandwich with fresh goat’s cheese and fig jam… It’s delicious!

The people of Anjou also recommend...

As we haven’t had the chance to try out everything yet, some local gourmets have recommended that we combine our next Sunday visit to the Musée des Beaux-Arts with brunch at the 1801 Les Cuisines du Musée restaurant: the decor is lovely and the menu tempting (brunch is available on the 1st Sunday of the month)!

The Fikatea room opened its doors in October 2023 in Angers town centre and invites you to discover its sweet and savoury brunch one Sunday a month. In a warm, cosy atmosphere, you’ll enjoy fresh, seasonal local produce for a gourmet experience made simple!

A new address has also been a great success since it opened, in Rue Boisnet, near the Jardin des Plantes: Foodista! With its soft, candy-pink atmosphere, Claire and Steven will be delighted to welcome you for brunch from Tuesday to Sunday!

You’re not dreaming, brunch during the week is also possible at Foodista. Seasonal cuisine that’s both delicious and balanced, with vegetarian and gluten-free options to suit everyone! Everything you need to have a great time! So where will you be brunching this coming weekend?
