To celebrate its fortieth anniversary, the Musée Jean-Lurçat et de la Tapisserie Contemporaine is exhibiting the remarkable Tolkien hanging and retracing the history of its creation.
The fruit of an exceptional partnership between the Cité internationale de la tapisserie and the Tolkien Estate, this hanging of fourteen tapestries and two carpets was woven between 2017 and 2024, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's hand drawings. Inspired by the author's two most famous works, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, this ensemble also draws on other sources such as The Silmarillion and Santa Claus's Letters to His Children.
This exhibition is part of a renewed partnership with the Cité internationale de la tapisserie d'Aubusson, which is exceptionally hosting a mirror image of Le Chant du Monde.
The respective loans of two hangings as grandiose as they are popular make these exhibitions an event of international stature.
