Church Saint Pierre

St. Peter’s Church features a single nave dating from the early 11th century. The north wall, which has no buttresses, is pierced by large mullioned windows. The southern windows indicate that the volume of this nave has not been altered. It is covered by a paneled vault dating from 1771. The south door was rebuilt in the 19th century. A beautiful, tall bell tower was added to the side of the nave at the end of the 11th century: it has three stories, two of which are decorated with false arches, while the third features small double arched windows supported by a small column with an 11th-century capital. The choir, which is the same width as the nave, has a flat apse and pointed-arch windows and dates from the 13th century. It was surrounded on two sides—the south and west—by an exterior gallery, which served as a porch for the main entrance and as a gathering place for the “community of residents” before the Revolution. This gallery was demolished in 1903 by Father Budan with the approval of the municipality at the time, so that its materials could be used to rebuild the sacristies and restore the choir.
