Hiking - Between Mayenne and the meadows of the Angevin low valleys

Following the meandering Mayenne, you'll come across the remarkable landscapes of the Basses Vallées Angevines meadows, castles and mansions, and an observatory.

This trail takes you to two towns on the banks of the Mayenne in the heart of the Basses Vallées Angevines, a Natura 2000 site. Montreuil-Juigné, which boasts 2 locks, and Cantenay-Épinard, at the confluence of the Sarthe and Mayenne rivers, are rich in natural heritage, and since 2015 have been part of a new cycle tourism route, "La Vélo Francette", linking Normandy to the Atlantic.

Tourist attractions :
- The Mayenne towpath runs alongside the river between the two communes.
- The Montreuil-Belfroy lock, 34m long, was once used to transport raw materials for the flour mill.
- The hamlet of "Vieux Cantenay", on the banks of the Sarthe, is home to such fine residences as Château de Grand Vaux and La Hautvraie.

Facilities available:
- Toilets and picnic tables on the banks of the Mayenne at Cantenay-Épinard
