Discover Angers without a car

Angers, the city of greenery, is known for being very easy to visit on foot. A walk with the kids, an early morning jog or simple hike – there are lots of excuses to visit the destination at your own pace. Three districts of Angers are particularly popular with walkers for their rich culture and heritage, as well as their natural environment.

The heart of the city!

Fully pedestrianised, this district is organised around Place du Ralliement, a favourite meeting place for locals. Take a look around you!

What to see:

  • The superb Italianate façade of the Grand Théâtre, overlooked by the statues of Lyrical Poetry, Comedy, Tragedy and Music.
  • The Musée Pincé
  • La Maison d’Adam and its half-timbered walls, valuable witnesses to Renaissance know-how (its façade is undergoing renovation until summer 2024).

Places to visit:

Enjoy:

  • Have a gourmet coffee in Place Sainte-Croix or a glass of Cabernet d’Anjou or Rosé de Loire in one of the city centre wine bars.

The historic city

It was here that the foundations of the town were laid and power was focused from the Middle Ages onwards. You can go back in time, but only on foot!

What to see:

  • The unmissable Château d’Angers, the centrepiece of the historic city and most visited site in the region. The Apocalypse Tapestry (a Unesco World Heritage object), sentry walk, ramparts, gardens and vineyards: the medieval experience is complete.

Places to visit:

Enjoy:

  • Try a delicious crêpe in front of the fire or on the terrace of Crêperie du Château, one of Angers’ best-known delicatessens, just like Crêperie Marie Mil’Goules, housed in a former cabinet-maker’s workshop just a stone’s throw from the Tourist Office.

Angers City Pass, I book !

With the Angers City pass 24h, 48h or 72h, take full advantage of Angers and its surroundings and discover the must-see sites of our destination in complete freedom and saving money!

The Doutre district

On the other side of the Pont de Verdun, a true village within the city awaits you. Stroll along the quiet banks and picturesque squares and enjoy the calm of this pretty district.

What to see:

  • The collections of the Musée Jean-Lurçat and contemporary tapestry. The latter has been home to the Chant du Monde tapestry since 1968, a truly modern interpretation of the Apocalypse tapestry in Château d’Angers.
  • The roof of the Théâtre le Quai, with its breathtaking view over the Maine and Château d’Angers.

Enjoy :

  • a delicious, fresh, creative gourmet meal in a stylish setting at Lait Thym sel.
