Our ideas for rainy day outings in Angers

What to do in Angers when it rains?

Despite its mild climate, the weather here can sometimes be a bit temperamental!

So what should you do in Angers when it’s raining? We’ve come up with 12 great ideas for visits and outings to discover Angers while staying dry, with or without children!

6 things to do with your kids when it rains

2. An outing to the skating rink

The Angers Iceparc skating rink, open since 2019, is THE perfect place to discover skating or perfect your technique. So let’s get started! Put on your skates and off you go. Suitable activities are available for children aged 3 and over.

3. Preparing a cake or pancakes

An idea that will put a smile on everyone’s face! Baking a cake is a great way to give your children a treat, while enjoying yourself in the kitchen … and sharing a moment together in the process. We suggest, for example, a fun, family-friendly cookery workshop to delight young and old alike!

4. Play board games

This is the best way to sharpen their senses and have a good time. Short of board games at home? See you at Les Casse-pions! The concept: sit around a table with plates to share and discover all kinds of games as a family. A great time guaranteed!

There are also other gaming bars and specialist shops in Angers:

Looking for something special? We’ve got just what you need: concerts, theatre, dance, magic … a whole variety of shows to amaze your children (and you, too!). It’s the break we all need to escape the rain. Let the show begin!

1. Discover the art of tapestry, sculpture and the history of Angers

Discover the Galerie David d’Angers the heart of the city – you’ll love the place even before you set foot inside! This former abbey church, covered by a contemporary glass roof, is home to sculptures by David d’Angers.

If you like tapestries, Angers is the place for you, as the tapestry of the Apocalypse, housed in Château d’Angers and listed as UNESCO World Heritage in May 2023, is the largest medieval tapestry in the world. Don’t miss it!

At the Musée Jean-Lurçat et de la tapisserie contemporaine, you’ll discover Jean Lurçat’s Chant du monde in the heart of the Hôpital Saint-Jean, a 12th-century architectural complex.

At the Musée des Beaux-arts, you can discover the history of Angers and admire over 350 works of art.

3. Try Loire wines in spite of the rain

If you wanted to follow the wine routes to meet the winegrowers, but the weather’s not cooperating, we suggest you head for the Maison des vins d’Anjou Saumur! Right next door to Château d’Angers, you’ll be welcomed by wine professionals who’ll help you discover the great appellations of Anjou Saumur, from sweet white wines to liqueurs, not forgetting the grands crus, fruity reds, generous reds and sparkling wines. You’ll be delighted by the diversity of these Loire wines!

The wine bars in Angers also offer cosy places to taste and discover the local wines.
