Founder of the support/surface group, Claude Viallat has been composing painted canvases for 60 years, in which the drawing of the same shape is repeated. These free canvases, created by the artist with obstinacy, give pride of place to the color that the line of this enigmatic form never ceases to reveal. The twenty or so works by Claude Viallat can be seen in the nave of the recently reopened Ronceray Abbey.
