Description
Château de Serrant opens its grounds to visitors free of charge. The landscaped grounds, orangery and gardens are open non-stop, with numerous events organized in partnership with the Saor Alba historical re-enactment association: re-enactment of an 18th-century Scottish army camp, combat demonstrations, rifle shooting, period crafts, etc... Educational farm with sheep and rabbits.
Reduced-rate tours of the château: some 20 rooms are open to the public, including the famous 12,000-book library, one of the largest in France, drawing room, dining room and bedrooms, all elegantly furnished with original features. Access to the kitchens and servants' quarters for a behind-the-scenes look, as well as the 17th-century chapel designed by Versailles architect Jules Hardouin Mansart. Guided "flash" tours allow you to discover more intimate spaces: the private apartments of the Duke and Duchess de La Trémoïlle, or the former servants' bedrooms in the attic.
