Description
The story begins in Angers – or rather in Seville – where soldiers from the Dragoons’ barracks rub shoulders with the women workers at the tobacco factory. Carmen, one of the workers, is arrested for starting a brawl. Don José, a recently recruited sergeant, is tasked with taking her to prison. The young man falls in love with her and deliberately lets Carmen escape. A promising start to a love story that ends badly...
In this travelling ‘landscape opera’, a troupe of ten performers take on the challenge of narrating, acting out and singing this story across three successive venues, guiding the audience from one location to the next to draw them deeper into the ‘landscape’ of Carmen.
