Description
As part of the National Artists’ Days, organized by the Maison des
Artistes, Laurent NOËL—a painter, draftsman, printmaker, and author who has lived and worked
in Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire for nearly 40 years—will open his studio to the public.
Visitors will be able to view drawings, paintings, prints, as well as numerous
preparatory works, sketches, drafts, and studio notebooks. These include previously unseen works related
to his current artistic explorations, as well as older pieces brought out from the studio’s archives.
Artists’ books and “free pages” will also be on display.
Additionally, books and editorial collaborations (literary
and poetry journals) will be presented, including his most recent work, *Lieux(-)tus*, published by
Éditions Sauvages and winner of the 2025–2026 Paul Quéré Prize.
New addition: a proofing letterpress has arrived at the studio,
along with type cases (typographers’ drawer cabinets) filled with
lead type, inspiring the artist to create a new body of work centered on “poetic
” and artist’s books created entirely on site, combining printmaking,
writing, and typography.
Also on this occasion, a walk (weather permitting) among the works
installed in the landscaped area surrounding the studio and, at random—since Laurent Noël
is also an author—readings of unpublished poetic texts or excerpts from his
latest publications.
These days will provide an opportunity for an informal exchange with the artist right
in his workplace to gain a better understanding of his creative process.
