Description
After the 15th century and King René's departure for Provence, the Château d'Angers was mainly used as a prison.
Some of the inmates remained famous, such as Nicolas Fouquet, who was imprisoned in Angers under the leadership of a certain D'Artagnan in 1661. Others, more anonymous, were put in irons as war hostages, political prisoners or even psychiatric patients known as "insensés furieux". All have left moving traces of their passage on the walls...
