Angers, the Cycling Experience Gravel Weekend – My First Overnight Campout Set out on a roughly 100-km gravel cycling weekend starting from Angers, with an overnight campout in the Lower Angers Valleys. Bikes are equipped for bikepacking, and panniers and camping gear are provided by the Tourist Office; suitable for beginners and up. Set out on this first 2- to 3-day cycling trip and enjoy a nature experience where the essentials take center stage: cycling along rivers, discovering intimate landscapes right by the water, observing, and savoring the moment. Itinerary: Approximately 109 km route—gravel bike equipped for bikepacking—intermediate level. Good physical condition required. The route is generally smooth with a few hills to climb. It mainly follows paved or mixed-surface trails, running alongside five rivers: the Authion, the Loir, the Sarthe, the Mayenne, and the Maine. Open, unmarked route to be completed independently and by reservation: - Starting point: Tourist Office, Place Kennedy, Angers—check-in and advice available at the bike concierge desk - Public transportation stop (tram and train) located less than 500 m from the starting point - Elevation gain: 194 m - Season: early April to late October - Recommended duration: 2 to 3 days - Service areas along the route (Rives-du-Loir-en-Anjou, Montreuil-Juigné, Cantenay-Épinard) Surface types: - Paved: 55% - Dirt paths: 45% Angers and its surrounding area, with their rich confluence landscapes, are sometimes at risk of flooding throughout the year. Some trails may be temporarily impassable, so please remain vigilant.
